President's Message
August 2011
Dear Canyon Crest Academy Families,
As incoming Canyon Crest Academy Foundation (CCAF) president, I welcome you to the 2011-2012 academic year of Canyon Crest Academy (CCA). While I am new to this position, I am, like many of you, a returning parent to this great school.
Whether your student has roamed the “halls” of CCA for several years, or you are new to CCA as a parent, you may not be aware of the Foundation and the critical/important role it plays in the three pillars of CCA: Academics, Athletics, and the Arts.
CCAF was formed eight years ago as a non-profit, parent volunteer organization dedicated to realizing CCA’s educational programs and priorities through financial, volunteer and community support, and this support is even more important today. CCA family donations form the cornerstone of our ability to enable EVERY student at CCA to receive a daily benefit of expanded activities and resources that otherwise would NOT be available at our school.
Here are just a few examples:
- In Academics, the Foundation funds technology refresh of computers and other technology equipment, counseling resources that support better planning and knowledge of college and university options, and Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) and QUEST programs that give hands-on learning that even some college students never experience.
- In Athletics, the Foundation funds both head coach and assistant coach positions for a number of sports that the district is unable to fund. Without your contributions for the 2011-12 school year, your student may not be able to participate in one or more of their desired sports for Fall, Winter, or Spring.
- In Arts, the Foundation supports all guest artists – world renowned experts working one on one with your student in Conservatory and in the Envision Day classes of Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Theater, Digital and Fine Art; as well as equipment that supports the teachers and students in these disciplines. All CCA students take Envision classes as part of their graduation requirements, and the Envision program is recognized nationwide. Keeping Envision at its high standards and award-winning position depends on your financial support.
The bottom line is that CCA has achieved the reputation for academics, athletics, and the arts with your absolute support. Our financial goal for the 2011-2012 academic year is to raise more than $800,000 to bridge the gap between public funding and CCA’s needs. The $800,000 will enable our school to continue to offer the exceptional educational opportunities that are the hallmark of CCA.
We call on you to support the Foundation this year. Your contribution, at the amount you can afford (and we hope a bit more) will benefit your child directly whether they are interested in science, math, theater, music, baseball, or lacrosse, and more. Each of these disciplines depend on funding from your donations. Your generosity will enable CCA to continue to lead the county, and increasingly the country, in providing the very best education in our public schools today.
Please visit the Foundation’s website at www.canyoncrestfoundation.org for more information on our giving categories, contributing online, volunteer opportunities, and our Legacy Wall. I and our board of dedicated parents look forward to meeting you at Back to School Night, and to receiving your support. Thank you, and welcome to CCA and the 2011-12 school year.
Sincerely,
Chuck Flacks
Canyon Crest Academy Foundation President
